9th - 12th Grade Summer School

Courses & Cost

2024 tuition is $1005 for full course or $525 per semester.

All courses require a minimum number of students enrolled in order to run.

9TH GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION WITH HEALTH

Students will participate in activities that are of a vigorous nature adapted to individual capacities and designed to permit maximum development of each individual. Students will also develop an understanding of the mechanics of human movement.

 
Health is a graduation requirement for students enrolled in public schools in California. In La Cañada Unified, this curriculum is taught during 9th grade physical education.  Rising 9th grade students enrolled in this class will receive the state required health education curriculum.


This course is for rising 9th grade students.

10TH-12TH GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Students will participate in activities that are of a vigorous nature adapted to individual capacities and designed to permit maximum development of each individual. Students will also develop an understanding of the mechanics of human movement. 


This course is for rising 10th-12th grade students. Most students take the California mandated health class during 9th grade PE. If your student has not completed health, they can take it for no additional cost during this summer PE class. Email us to request that your 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student attend health during their PE class.

HEALTH (JUNE 17-18)

Health instruction is a California requirement for graduation. Students who have not fulfilled their health requirment and do not need to take physical education this summer may register for this class. This class will be taught for only two days, June 17 and June 18, at La Cañada High School. Cost to attend this health class is $260.   

LC MATH 1 / ALGEBRA 1

Prerequisite: Completion of Math 8 or its equivalent. This is the first course in a common core based college preparatory math sequence.


This course is for rising 9-12 grade students who are not on the advanced math pathway.

LC MATH 2 / GEOMETRY

Prerequisite: Completion of LC Math 1 or its equivalent. This is the second course in a common core based college preparatory math sequence and includes standards from the conceptual categories of Geometry, Statistics and Probability.


This course is for rising 9-12 grade students.

ADVANCED MATH TOPICS 1 & 2

This rigorous elective includes topics covered in LC Math 1 & 2 Advanced but not covered in LC Math 1 & 2 (college preparatory). This course must be taken for the full term and is intended for students who have completed LC Math 1 and/or LC Math 2 and want to move to the advanced pathway in the fall semester. Students who complete this course with a grade of B or higher with counselor approval may enroll LC Math 2 or 3 Advanced as appropriate in the Fall. This course earns students 10 units of math elective credit.

BIOLOGY

This is a conceptual biology course that covers topics in the Next Generation Science Standards. All science courses provided by LCFEF Summer School are NGSS compliant, involve labs, and have an additional $60 laboratory materials fee.


Students should check with their school counselor for appropriate course selection.

CHEMISTRY

This is a laboratory course in general chemistry that covers topics in the Next Generation Science Standards. All science courses provided by LCFEF Summer School are NGSS compliant, involve labs, and have an additional $60 laboratory materials fee.

PHYSICS

This is a laboratory course in physics that covers topics in the Next Generation Science Standards. All science courses provided by LCFEF Summer School are NGSS compliant, involve labs, and have an additional $60 laboratory materials fee.


LCHS students generally take this course in 9th grade. Students should check with their school counselor for appropriate course selection.


This course is for rising 9-12 grade students.

SPANISH 1

This class introduces students to the vocabulary, grammar, conversation, and cultures of Spanish speaking countries. The course is designed for students with no previous background in Spanish.


This course is intended for high school students starting Spanish. Incoming 8th graders with a strong academic record may enroll. There is an additional $25 materials fee for the workbook.

SPANISH 2

This class is a continuation of Spanish 1 and teaches students to become more confident with speaking the language in real-life situations.There is an additional $25 materials fee for the workbook.


This course is for rising 9-12 grade students.

SPANISH 3

This course involves high standard vocabulary with a good amount of synonyms and cognates, a broad grammar that deals with many complex tenses and clauses as well as idiomatic expressions, immersion in Spanish literature and knowledge of the Spanish culture. There is an additional $25 materials fee for the workbook.


This course is for rising 9-12 grade students.

GOVERNMENT / ECONOMICS - Class Canceled for 2024

This full-year course is split into two areas of study. Students spend one semester studying the structure and procedures of federal, state and local government and the fundamental themes of government such as federalism, separation of powers, majority and minority rights. The other semester introduces students to the concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics.


LCHS students generally take this course in 12th grade. Students should check with their school counselor for appropriate course selection.

U.S. HISTORY

This course examines major developments in American history from the Era of Reconstruction to the recent past, 1877 to the present.


LCHS students generally take this course in 11th grade. Students should check with their school counselor for appropriate course selection.

WORLD HISTORY

Students in World History study major turning points that shaped the modern world from the late seventeenth century through the present, including the cause and course of the two world wars.
